The content consists of text-based information, films, exercises, and quizzes.
You can take the courses whenever you wish to.
The courses are aimed at students and employees at Umeå University, but you have access to the content even if you are not connected to the university.
About our courses
As a participant in the library courses, you will carry out various activities to support your learning.
Basic course in information search
In this course, you will learn the basics of information searching skills so that you can:
search for information for a paper;
find scientific articles; and
design your searches to be more precise.
Target audience: Students
Duration: Approximately 1 hour. You can take the course at its full length or choose the parts that interest you.

Plagiarism training
In this course, you will learn to recognise and avoid plagiarism. You will also learn how to correctly reference works by others.
The plagiarism training has been developed in collaboration between Umeå University Library, the Department of Language Studies, and Humlab.
Target audience: Students and teachers
Duration: 30-50 minutes. To complete the course, you need to go through all the steps from start to finish.

Creative Commons licences in scholarly publishing
In this course, you will learn:
what Creative Commons licences are and how they work;
how to choose a licence when publishing your research results; and
how to use Creative Commons-licensed material correctly.
Target audience: Doctoral students and researchers. Some parts are also relevant for students.
Duration: 45-60 minutes. You can take the course at its full length or choose the parts that interest you.

Our courses are based on participant-centred learning
The library's online courses have been developed based on the constructive alignment pedagogical model. The model is based on student-centred learning, where the participant learns through various activities, such as text, videos, and exercises.
More information about the model and the library's methodology
Learning activities (LA) are developed based on the learning outcomes (LO) that the participants are expected to achieve within the course. Assessment Tasks (AT), such as quizzes, are used to assess participants' knowledge. Based on their performance, participants can then choose to repeat specific parts of the course.
